Lalage Sturdee is a cripple. But if her father, a brilliant surgeon, had not abandoned her at birth, she might have been healthy. Desperate for a cure she goes to an unqualified bonesetter who has had an almost miraculous success with many patients. She falls in love with him, but at first his treatment appears to have been unsuccessful. Only when she learns to have total faith in him will her weakness be cured.
