June 1942. Jérôme enters the Free Zone with Alice, the widow of a Jewish surgeon. Jérôme and Alice, who have platonic relationship, go to stay with Charles, Jérôme's friend. Against Charles' will, Jérôme involves him in helping the Jews flee occupied France. Because he loves Alice, Charles accepts. The news from the Paris Resistance is troubling and Jérôme sends his two friends on a reconnaissance mission during which they becomes lovers. Upon their return, Jérôme learns of their affair and disappears. When Jérôme is arrested, Alice leaves Charles, in order to help him. Charles, disappointed and "war weary", in turn, enters the Resistance...
